Sync data from Sage Desktop

When a new client has been set up, click the 'Setup automatic sync' button

On the list of Sync's dropdown, select the correct Sage Version  (v26, v27 etc)

NOTE: If your client uses an older version that the versions listed, just restore onto the most recent version as the recent versions have the ability to cope with upgrading older versions back to V16.  If your client uses older than V16, then they will need to export a full nominal activity in Excel and email it to you in order that you can prepare their accounts

You should then start to type the client's name or location, picking the correct company number (usually COMPANY.XXX).

Enter the Username and Password - unless this is entered correctly the Silverfin file will not sync (note, both the username and password need to be completed, Silverfin does not allow blank passwords)

If your Sage data is very large, rather than creating your sync as above, click Edit Client, go to Data Synchronisation and click the + symbol, then select Switch from manual uploading to an automatic synchronisation.  You would then select on the Synchronisation type dropdown and follow the instructions above however the key part is to select a transfer date, which is at least current year and the two previous years.  As you are cutting off the amount of data that Silverfin is trying to sync, then it should hopefully sync quicker and more effectively.

N.B. we have yet to see any large sage sync's take a significant time to complete so the preferred option is to let all previous years sync into Silverfin.

Reminder: where possible please set up the sync in advance of starting work on the assignment.  This will allow time to address any issues with the sync or client bookkeeping data.

Important - once the data has loaded into Silverfin and you are happy that the data has loaded OK then disconnect the sync (set to manual upload).  This will avoid data being overwritten if the same restore 'slot' is used for a different client with the same username / password combination.  To do this select Edit Client > Sync Tab, click the Switch Sync button and then select the option to switch 'From current automatic synchronisation to manual upload'
