Communication Basics

A summary of the basics around the communication in Silverfin.

The Masterclass for this is here (23 mins) if you need more detail.

Notes

Notes are the digital version of the "plastic sleeve in the front of the paper file" - for general notes (some of which may then go into the points carried forward or permanent information for the next year).  Examples of this are details of phone calls from the client or other matters that might be relevant for that client or accounting period.  Nothing that is to be discussed with the client goes here, they have their very own special area as below, so you don't need to use your "telephone voice".....but always be professional of course.

To-Do's

To-Do's are the digital version of "review points" or "sticky notes" on the file - items that will be resolved in the current year.  Examples of this are reminders to upload a signed engagement letter, a to-do for a colleague to review the file, etc.  Again, nothing that is to be discussed with the client goes here, they have their very own special area. All review points or points for manager/partner are To-Do's.

Points for Client / Meeting

Points for Client / Meeting are simply that - a one-stop shop where everything that that needs to be asked for from the client, or discussed with the client goes.  This means that the partner has an agenda for their meeting that they can work through, and they don't have to skim through all of their Notes and To-Do's above, trying to assess what points are for the client or what are internal.  This is where you need your telephone voice on :)

If you leave off the numbering until you are finished the file, then you can enter the numbers in, in order of preference or importance, grouping relevant items as required.
